Anxiety and children:

outside world. Some children are brave and are able to face the social world more boldly than others who are reserved and timid. These children are not able to socialize very well and detest the very thought of going to school. They often complain about stomachaches or other such imaginary problems to avoid school.
This is the starting point of anxiety.

Other causes of anxiety:
As already stated that it is at school that the child ventures into the outer world for the first time, therefore it is in school where he begins to face his primary social problems.
Peer group pressure: his interaction with his friends. Whether he is able to interact normally with the other kids of his age. Are other older or bigger children bullying him? These reasons can cause social withdrawal within a child, and thereby increasing anxiety of going to school.
Many-a-times the child is afraid to go out camping with his friends because of having to sleep in the dark without his parents. If he has done it once, then it may leave an emotional scar in his mind about darkness, and may portray fear when in utter darkness.
He may be scared of animals, like dogs or sudden loud noises. He may tremble in fear when face to face with a dog or when he hears a sudden loud noise.
Family matters play an important role too. His relationship with his parents. Whether he is getting the required attention from both his parents. Are the parents too tough on him or they are over possessive about the child that may make him very dependant on them. If the child is from a broken home, he is unable to cope up with the day-to-day stress of the house.

Treatment
On seeing any signs of anxiety the parents should take immediate measures. Any signs of panic, depression, frustration, stammering, etc are signs of anxiety.
Measures such as trying to make the child talk about his problems. Taking him to a child counselor, Being constantly in touch with his school authorities, and building within the child a true sense of security.
A child's mind is vulnerable, hence treating it of it's deficiencies is not a hard work.
