Anxiety symptoms


Anxiety is a deep feeling of discomfort and extreme restlessness. Everyone experiences this mood at some point of time in his or her life. Hectic of day-to-day life leads to stress, which if prolonged, turns into anxiety. When anxiety becomes severe it becomes a disorder. However it must be noted that mild or slight anxiety is not harmful but is a positive experience. Nevertheless, excessive occurrence of anxiousness requires attention and treatment.

As it has already been mentioned that anxiety is common, we must know where to draw a line between normal and abnormal anxiety. Anxiety becomes abnormal when it interferes with our everyday activities or when it occurs devoid of any particular reason.

Symptoms of anxiety are both, physical as well as psychological.

Physical symptoms of anxiety
While undergoing anxiety certain changes begin to occur in the body. Heart begins to beat faster. Breathing becomes heavy. Sweating takes place and also a certain amount of stammering. The brain begins to release stress hormones. Because of the above changes that occur certain symptoms begin to crop up:
Palpitation: Due to irregular heartbeats, the body begins to quiver and shake.
Frequent urination: due to the feeling constant unexplained fear, this symptom is experienced.
Tightness or pain in the chest: our body becomes tense and hence our muscles tighten.
Dizziness: irregular breathing makes one dizzy.
Difficulty in swallowing: anxiety leads to nervousness which most of the times causes a lump to occur in our throat.

Some other common physical symptoms of stress are dry mouth, diarrhea and asthma attack.

Psychological symptoms of anxiety
Anxiety affects one's state of mind and hence its psychological effects are drastic. It causes a number of mental illnesses. More often than less the physical symptoms don't show themselves and hence it is important to be aware of the psychological signs that communicate anxiety. Some of its psychological symptoms are:
Helplessness: the person begins to loose control of his actions. He begins to go into a state of vulnerability
Loss of concentration: he is unable to concentrate and consequently may show a sharp decline in performance.
Aggression or touchiness: he becomes aggressive and impatient.
Sleeplessness: he will suffer from sleeplessness and will further add to the problems that occur due to the same.

It is thus advisable that any person suffering from any of the above indications must undergo the proper treatment that will help him to overcome the problems that cause further severe mental disorders that follow anxiety.
